The control panel is the "brain" of the alarm system it is usually is located in a closet or equipment room. It includes the microprocessor, digital communicator, backup battery to continue operation during power failure, the telephone interface, power supply, and surge protection.
The keypad is the user interface in a security system. It allow arming and disarming of the security system and are designed for ease of use. The keypad also has police, medical, and fire panic keys. It is usually located by the entry door to the home or business. In a home, there may be additional keypads located in the master bedroom or in other areas.
Sirens are used to alert owners and draw attention. Sirens may be installed inside or outside of the home or business.
Door Contacts are usually used to protect all perimeter doors of a premise protected by a security system.
Window contacts are used to protect some or all windows in a home or business.
A glassbreak detector is a device that is mounted on the wall or ceiling that will generate an alarm if the sound of breaking glass is detected. They usually cover up to 25 feet from the detector.
A motion detector is a wall or ceiling mounted device that detects passive infrared energy changes(heat changes like a body) in a room.
